The following information information is not my research and was taken from http://eagnews.org/tag/predators-in-the-classroom/. A special acknowledgment goes out to reporter Steve Gunn for having the courage to write to raise awareness of problems with sexual predators in our Public School Classrooms. The headlines of the stories included with this article only cover page one and if you want to learn more I recommend heading to this website and reading more about this problem that is altering the lives of so many children in our classrooms. Most of the text on this page comes directly from the pen of Steve Gunn and this is, in no way an attempt to plagarise his content but rather to raise aware of a growing problem. This is also not an indictment of the teaching profession. There are a great many teachers who are responsible and fantastic teachers but we can’t keep ignoring this problem out of some misdirected fear of tarnishing the reputations of the good teachers.
Abuse exists in many forms. It is not confined to domestic violence issues. At play in abuse as a common thread is an individual using their position of power or physical dominance to abuse those over which they can exert that power. The contents that follow is about sexual abuse in our classrooms. It is a reflection of the moral decline of our society in general and the fact that there is not more of an outcry about this problem should shock us.
Just today (September 9) Sen. Toomey sent out a plea for support of his legislation that would require more background checks on school employees. He introduced this legislation on April 16 but he faces strong opposition and that begs us to question why?
Earlier this year Teacher’s Unions successfully pressured the Discovery Channel into cancelling “Bad Teacher,” a series based on actual investigations of teachers molesting students.
Unlike the media frenzy when priests were accused of molesting children, the media seems to virtually silent when it comes to raising awareness when teachers violate the trust of the community while violating their students. Is it because when a teacher molests a child it doesn’t fall into their convenient war on religion and faith principles?
Just how bad is this problem – this, as stated above, is just a summary of the links to articles that appear on page one of the website, there are more pages with more links if you go to that website (http://eagnews.org/tag/predators-in-the-classroom/):
